Update, Summer 2007: I built this to be legal for track racing, and a few bolts later (bars and brake), more aggressive for the road, hence the two different configurations...alas, I never got around to racing it, and used the deda pista bars on Tresa's FG. The 'street' setup pictured above is way more fun. I got a settlement from getting hit, and though I wanted a $10k Colnago, I settled for a few ounces of carbon fiber. It now sports a carbon fiber saddle, stem, straight bar, and seat post, plus I put a freewheel and rear brake on it because it seems like all the kids these days are riding fixed. Plus I don't care how "one with your bike" you are on a fg, you can be way more aggressive on a fw ss...and aggressive is uh, how do I put this...faster. Don't get me started on the hordes of fg hipsters coasting around at 3 mph.

I also sort-of have a ss 'cross bike (I look like hell because I had strep throat and was seeing spots in the runup in the Jackson Park race, but I got blogged for dressing like a fred). Actually, now that I work in the work in the loop, I converted my ss 'cross bike back to a bullhorned messenger freewheeled ss...basically a bullhorned version of the above that weighs 7 pounds more, is way more bulletproof, and still has last winter's salt splattered on it, so it doesn't look like it's worth stealing. Also coming soon, Tresa's track bike...

AFA the race resume, I briefly hit the No NOS Quartermile (flickr shots here and here), an alleycat in Pilsen on May 6th 2006. It was mostly steel fixies with bullhorns, and I felt like yuppie scum with my carbon fiber blingle speed, but I smoked my heat so at least I backed it up. I had to split to go to an formal benefit for my kids' school. How life has changed...Stellar event: $10 entry, cool vibe, good prizes, free red bull and beer, and quality shirts. I wish they were all like that.
